What am I looking For
I am beyond the point of having to, wanting to, or needing to accept the first job I am offered. I need certain things in a job, and I am essentially looking for 4 things from my next job:
I am looking for something that can be my final move in terms of employment. A place where I feel comfortable with the people, where I feel appreciated and where I know my contribution is significant. Obviously this does not come instantly, but I would quickly be able to see whether this was possible, based on current staff experiences, staff turn-over, market position, brand credibility and my initial impressions. there should also be a career path, although if I am making a contribution, and continue to do so, increased responsibility or 'higher office' is not a requirement.
I need to be judged on clearly defined criteria. I do not believe in 'looking busy' or 'creating work' to keep my conscience clear and the boss happy. I also don't believe in being rewarded or kept on the pay-roll for being a 'nice guy' or the 'life and soul of the office'. I believe in results that are measured against pre-determined goals. Targets, job-descriptions and expectations must be agreed in detail from day one.
While I am looking for a position that matches my skills, there must be a constant challenge. I do not thrive when boredom sets in - and a challenge doesn't mean a difficult boss, impossible working conditions or the like! It means a dynamic role that requires thought, mental input and constant evaluation.
Lets face it, I work for money. At the same time I have run my own businesses with significant turnovers and large staff contingents, so I fully realise that financial reward has to be related to production. I also realise that there are support staff, overheads and profits that need to be accounted for, so I am a realist. I am also aware that if I produce more than is required, my cost becomes less. The bottom line is that i expect to earn a living wage basic salary, and then a performance based commission with no ceiling. If I happen to earn more than the CEO, so be it, and if I don't produce enough to justify my income, take a cut or move out. It's as simple as that.
If I can find the above in one job/position, I will be happy, and so will my employer.
